The Columbus Youth Soccer League (CYSL) opened registration for its fall 2026 season on July 1, offering programs for children ages 4 to 18 at fields across the city. The league, which runs from late August through November, is accepting players at all skill levels at parks including Goodale Park and Berliner Sports Park.
Why now matters
This year’s registration cycle comes as youth sports participation in Columbus has rebounded to pre-pandemic levels, according to a June 2026 report from the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. The CYSL reported a 20 percent increase in sign-ups over the 2025 spring season. With cap sizes set at 24 players per team and several divisions already nearing capacity, early registration is essential.
The league also introduced a new “Try-It-Out” open-gate program on Monday evenings at Berliner Sports Park, where families can watch a practice session before committing. First session was July 8; next one is July 22, 6:30 p.m.
What you need to know to start
Registration costs $95 per child for the fall season, which includes a game jersey and shin guards. Financial assistance is available through the Columbus Recreation and Parks Scholarship Fund-applications must be submitted by August 1. To register, visit the CYSL website or stop by the league office at 200 E. Fulton Street.
Equipment requirements are minimal: cleats, a water bottle, and shin guards. The league provides balls and goals. Practices are held twice a week at neighborhood fields such as Whetstone Park and Schiller Park. Games are played on Saturdays at Berliner Sports Park and Lou Berliner Sports Complex.
Volunteer coaches are still needed for the under-8 and under-10 divisions. The league offers a two-hour training session on Saturday, July 27, at Berliner Sports Park for anyone interested in coaching. No prior soccer experience is required.
For families new to the sport, the CYSL website includes a downloadable “Soccer 101” guide covering basic rules, positions, and game-day etiquette. The league also hosts a free clinic for new players on August 10 at Goodale Park from 9 a.m. to noon.
Registration closes August 15. Late registrations are accepted with a $25 fee and a waitlist for full divisions.
